Recycling and DIY (Do it yourself) creations are not only fashionable in decoration, but have become an excellent ‘low cost’ solution to give a new ‘look’ to the home without involving a high outlay. This trend has multiplied the possibilities of interior design by including original and unrepeatable pieces for which the crisis is not an inconvenience, since their ‘manufacture’ only requires a good dose of creativity, some skill and, in general, very low cost. In this way, it is possible to renew the decoration of the home for little money and the pocket is no longer an obstacle to give a new air to the sober rented apartments.
In previous posts we have given you some ideas to
recycle your terrace
as well as
your interior design
or create
original headboards
lamps and
DIY candle holders
among other ornaments. Today we list 15 everyday objects for a ‘low cost’ decoration of your home. So watch out! Before throwing anything into the garbage can, consider what it can be transformed into with a little imagination.
1. Wooden boxes: Their structure can be used to create an infinite number of furniture pieces. From bedside tables to side tables or shelves, to hallways and even closets. They can be sanded and painted to create beautiful designs. However, they are also used as they are, since untreated wood can give a rustic, vintage or industrial look, depending on the model and its combinations.
2. Shoes: Unusable shoes can be turned into unique planters or umbrella stands (if they are boots). At a given moment, and although it may seem impossible, they may even be able to tell the time.
Trunks: They can be used as tables, benches or to create collages on the walls, among other possibilities.
4. Pallets: Pallets have become an indispensable piece in the framework of recycling in decoration. Not surprisingly, virtually any piece of furniture can be made from pallets.
Side tables and pallet sofas, for which the custom-made cushions come in handy (and which we show you how to make in the following video), can already be considered a classic.
But the list is as long as fantasy can be: coat racks, headboards, armchairs, screens, counters, bookcases, shelves…and a very long etcetera.
5. Old suitcases: They are often used as bedside tables or side tables. But even as shelf shelves, they are a real eye-catcher.
6. Belts: Combined with wooden planks also allow you to create original shelves or shelves.
7. Graters. With them we can ‘see the light’.
8. Bottles. They are mainly reused as vases, but can be turned into amazing lamps.
9. Cans. They are ideal as flowerpots or candle holders (if we open small holes in them). But at one point, they even become creative containers for storing toilet paper.
10. Pizza boxes. Painted and hardened, they turn out to be pictures with a lot of personality.
11. Ladders. They can be reused as shelves, towel racks and even shoe racks.
12. Disquets. On this occasion we show them as a picture frame, but their possibilities, after their disappearance from modern computing, are many.
13. Old doors. They make great tabletops for creating tables or headboards. But they can also give a different look when hung on the wall.
14. Old crockery (plates and cups). With the dishes you can design different compositions to ‘dress’ the walls in an original way. The reuse of the cups, on the other hand, allows you to create a coquettish lamp that will certainly not go unnoticed.
15. Cable drums. With recycled cable drums you can create beautiful tables, including bookcases, chairs or large wooden clocks, among other charming furniture.
