Knowing the trends that follow the decoration this 2014 can help you when choosing or renewing the look of the house or premises. If we had to define in one word what 2014 is bringing in terms of interior design, we would say that it is the year of eclecticism. While this trend was followed in 2013, the mix of styles has been emphasized giving rise to environments with a lot of personality. In this line, vintage and industrial aesthetics, as well as the use of recycled and handmade pieces are very popular. We summarize some of the trends that are marking the interior design so far this year:
Eclecticism
The search for unique environments, with their own character, has accentuated the mix of styles that, already in 2013, set the trend. Aesthetics are diluted and fused, as well as eras, to give rise to eclectic interiors with a lot of personality where the warmth and history of the past meet the modernity and functionality of the present. The Scandinavian style of rustic, industrial or vintage evocation; romantic and bohemian atmospheres; the mix of modern and antique elements, typical of shabby chic or renovated classics, are all in vogue.
In this line, the ethnic takes center stage, mainly in textiles, but also in certain pieces. Thus, spaces that mix Nordic and ethnic (noretnic) emerge;
Moroccan-inspired chill out atmospheres
etc.
Vintage, retro & industrial
Vintage, retro and industrial styles are on trend this year. While 2013 was all about antique and salvaged pieces capable of telling a story, this year this trend has been emphasized. On the other hand, retro furniture and appliances are used.
Exposed brick, untreated wood, exposed structural elements and iron or metal furniture typical of industrial aesthetics are also recurrent. The current industrial style flees, however, from the cold and impersonal aspect of the factories to become warm through color, mainly, or with details of other styles.
Recycling and handmade
For some years now, recycling has had great importance in interior design, to the point that it has gone beyond the merely domestic sphere to become part of showrooms and shop windows. Recycled and handmade pieces contribute to underline the uniqueness of a space, turning it into a creative and original place, full of surprises.
Wallpaper and decorative vinyls
Since wallpaper emerged from its long period of oblivion, it has become a strong ally of interior design.

. Their designs can completely renew the look of a room, opening up a wide range of possibilities. Decorative vinyls and graphic elements are also becoming more and more frequent in order to give a distinctive touch to the space.
Geometry
Geometric figures on floors and walls (with tiles or tiles with hydraulic motifs, for example), but also in furniture and textiles continue to set the trend this 2014.
Natural spaces and materials
Natural evocation spaces, both for their textures and materials -stone, wood, ceramic, glass, etc.- or their neutral tones, based on white, earth and ochre, continue to mark the interior design this year.
Colors
As far as colors are concerned, pastel shades are still in fashion. Neutral tones, such as white, cream or gray, and touches of gold to give an elegant air, are also in fashion. Black, on the other hand, is beginning to stand out in furniture and walls.
According to Pantone, the color of 2014 is Radiant Orchid, which combines purple and fuchsia. Bruguer, meanwhile, points to Laguna Particular, a turquoise halfway between green and blue, as this year’s color of the year. In Colour Futures 2014, the firm brings together the five color palettes that will set the trend.
