The
Balinese bed
has become, as we have already commented on occasion, an icon of the chill out, lounge, Ibizan and Mediterranean style. In fact, because of their relationship with these aesthetics in Anglo-Saxon countries they are usually called chill out beds or lounge beds and in Spain it is not uncommon to hear about Ibiza beds. They are also widely used, given their origin and design, inspired by Bali, to give an oriental or ethnic touch to the decoration. But, regardless of the decorative style, the queen of the summer terraces is a strong presence in the decoration of hotels that seek to differentiate themselves by highlighting their personality.
Depending on the model of Balinese bed and the complements with which it is combined, some exteriors mark its exotic character or its paradisiacal image, among other aspects associated with the relaxation and rest of the client in a unique environment. More and more hotels are taking care of every detail of their terraces and pools, transforming them into an additional attraction for their guests. We review some of the common maxims that hotels follow when decorating their exteriors with Balinese beds.
A simple decoration
Because of their beauty, unquestionable comfort and versatility, Balinese beds are enough by themselves to fill a space with charm, especially if they have a canopy. Therefore, they are usually only combined with a few cushions to increase their comfort even more – while adding a touch of color – and side tables without any other details.
In swimming pools, landscaped areas and terraces
With a canopy or complemented by an umbrella, Balinese beds make the difference in the pools, where they serve as exceptional sun loungers. They are usually placed around them, giving a sense of elegance and glamour. Other hotel establishments choose to place them at different points in the garden areas, so that, like small islands jutting out of the sea, they are the protagonists of the decoration. Especially if the garden is used as a bar – or on hotel terraces – they are often complemented by comfortable sofas, armchairs and poufs around tables in different styles.
It is also frequently used in the ‘viewpoints’ of hotels that, due to their privileged location, enjoy a dreamlike horizon where sea and sky merge. This creates a unique corner for the possibility of enjoying unusual views while lying down or sitting.
Complements
Vegetation and elements that evoke nature -such as wood and stone- tend to be the most recurrent, as they reinforce the paradisiacal image of the hotel in question.
Lighting
Soft, subdued, chill-out type lighting is often used to create an intimate atmosphere that invites relaxation. With this idea, lamps that diffuse the light and allow graduating its intensity, ambient LED lights, lanterns, lanterns and candles are used. Artificial or real torches are also frequently used for the purity associated with fire.
Colors
The color par excellence of Balinese beds is usually white combined with wood and accessories in contrasting shades. However, there are hotels that opt for other colors.
Balinese bed models
There are many models of Balinese beds (you can consult the ones we include in the Fiaka Ambient catalog, where we also customize them). However, for its elegance and singular beauty, the classic model with wooden canopy combined with transparent sheers is by far the most acclaimed, mainly for the large garden areas of hotels.
For swimming pools, especially if space is limited, canopy-less models – the circular bed in green areas and the traditional ones closer to the pool – are usually used, complemented with umbrellas and special outdoor cushions, resistant to humidity, friction and sun.
The number of hotels opting for modular Balinese beds has increased significantly due to their versatility. This model not only allows to innovate the decoration on a daily basis, as it allows different combinations. It can also be used in other areas of the hotel when the weather forces the closure of outdoor areas.
