A puff for every style of decoration

Although poufs are normally associated with chill-out & lounge, Arab or oriental decoration, of which it is usually its leitmotiv and, therefore, one of its central elements, the truth is that it is one of the most versatile pieces of furniture when it comes to approaching the interior design of a home, premises or terrace. We could say that poufs fit in practically any style of decoration – from vintage, to Nordic, to pop, to mini-malistic or futuristic. All you have to do is choose the most appropriate design, color and layout to best reflect the personality of the business in question or the family that will inhabit the space.

It goes without saying, therefore, that depending on the decorative style we wish to achieve, the choice of puff varies. With these eight practical examples we approach the different aesthetics focusing on these ‘multiple personality seats’ whose design can be adapted to the particularities of the customer, moreover.

  • The chill-out & lounge type decoration should inspire comfort, tranquility, relaxation… for which it uses furniture with soft and straight lines, as well as open spaces. Pouffes in square and round shapes, with combined sizes, sofas or puff beds, as well as cushions are the central axis to create a chill atmosphere. Also puff chests, as we see in the image, can help to create this aesthetic. Although white is the color par excellence, other tones such as earth, ivory, orange or lilac are also used.

  • The Zen style is based on the philosophical current of the same name, which reached its maximum expression in Japan in the middle of the 18th century. It seeks order, simplicity and balance through few elements, mainly natural, such as wood or stone. Few and low furniture, simple lines and neutral colors distinguish this aesthetic. Low square poufs or large ones such as the Fiaka XL are often used to achieve a zen atmosphere.

  • ‘Less is more’. So titled Mies Van Der Rohe, director of the Bauhaus, the manifesto that would give rise to the minimalist aesthetic in interior design and architecture. Mimalism flees from ornamental excesses to reduce everything to the essence, to what is useful. He uses the elements as parts of a whole, primary colors, mainly black and white, few furniture, low and sometimes suspended. Rigid cubic puffs with simple square lines and these shades are often used in this type of decoration. Large soft poufs, such as those shown in the third image or the Paros type , are also ideal.

  • Influenced by Scandinavian countries, the Nordic aesthetics bets on light, so white furniture, walls and ornamentation prevail. Wood is also prevalent in this style, which uses simple cotton or linen prints to give touches of color in the framework of a ‘sea of white’. Puffs that combine these characteristics fit perfectly in these environments.

  • The retro & vintage style aims to evoke the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s with a modern feel. It uses original furniture that evokes these decades, recycled elements, strident prints and colors, as well as warm colors. It also plays with contrasts and the multiplicity of geometric shapes, as well as materials such as corduroy or synthetics. Poufs of different shapes and sizes, such as the soft cubic or the soft cylindrical using these elements and in bright colors or prints fit like a glove in these environments.

  • The pop aesthetic -inspired by the pop art sponsored by artists such as Andy Warhol or Roy Lichtenstein in the mid-1950s- alludes to mass culture, with consumer objects -who doesn’t remember the famous Campbell’s soup-, movie posters, advertising winks, comics, celluloid stars and music all forming part of this carefree and cheerful atmosphere. The combination of colors, original designs, repetitions and geometric shapes are essential in this aesthetic, for which you can choose puffs with these same characteristics.

  • Eclectic environments combine different styles and periods, so that furniture and decorative elements of rustic, modern, classic, etc. aesthetics can be mixed. Eclecticism is closely linked to retro aesthetics because of its classic-modern duality. It allows a very functional and personal decoration, because the range of possibilities is wide. The puff, in this sense, can vary in shape, size and colors depending on tastes and needs.

  • Technology can hide more beauty than art itself. This was expressed by Marinetti in the manifesto that would give rise to Futurism in the early twentieth century. The futuristic aesthetic uses technology as a central axis. It uses original design furniture of the dune lounger type, colors such as white illuminated or combined with other vivid shades to ‘transport you to the future’ (metaphorically speaking, of course) through the decoration. This type of environment avoids excesses and its materials par excellence are methacrylate, steel or glass, among others. White poufs, mainly rigid, but also in bright colors and bold and creative shapes (always evoking this aesthetic) can look great. Likewise, puff beds, such as the Balinese or the Sigmund divan, or cubic puffs, similar to those shown in the image, also have a place in this aesthetic.

Note: we could go on mentioning styles, but in order not to extend the post too much we have decided to mention only eight, some of which we have grouped by pair because of their similarities.
