In this post we open the doors of ‘La casa del médico’, a charming hotel located in Villanueva de Córdoba, a town in the Pedroches Valley with a dreamlike natural environment. It stands on a nineteenth-century manor house that at one time was home to the local doctor, hence its name. Its interior design is the work of H. Pedraza urban development, which proposed to Fiaka Ambient the design of customized headboards for the rooms.
Its customization was “fundamental” for the project, since it is a hotel in which “much of the charm lies in the individuality of its rooms,” says Nancy Martos Pedraza, manager of the architectural firm. Thus, each one has its “own personality”, something that “can only be achieved by working with companies that understand these different proposals and take up the challenge by offering a quality result that matches your suggestion”, says the interior designer, who highlights the silver finish of the fabrics of the headboards and the capitonné with a texture of a certain thickness, for “the feeling of luxury and comfort they produce”.
The rooms thus follow the eclectic style of the hotel, with renewed Louis XV-style French touches. In the common areas, the decoration is more minimal, with a modern nod to hunting and the countryside, says Nancy, for whom “this off-white and silver pickled style, as well as the lightness and stylization of the furniture create a light environment, not overwhelming and very chic,” she says. On the other hand, the light, the right elements of furniture “surprised from time to time by a spectacular piece, more baroque, so as not to bore”, make up a style “very harmonious and delicate, as well as romantic,” she adds.
Not surprisingly, its design was inspired by “the light” of the building, with a glass skylight arranged around a central courtyard, and the silver color of its railings, which “conveyed a sense of peace and minimalism, contrasting with the sobriety of the magneficiency,” he explains.
The architecture of the building is sober, in the elegant and austere line of the villages of the extreme north of Andalusia, where white houses with lots of granite on their facades predominate. In addition to these features, in this case, there is a staircase leading to the main entrance. The building is “simple on the outside, but it exudes wastefulness and elegance on the inside,” like “a handsome man,” Nancy says. This aspect has conditioned the renovation project, which “has respected tiles, stairs and some of the most important doors of the house”, as well as all the important elements: among these, the well, now illuminated and glazed, the back rooms of the stables or the cellar, details Nacy.
The interior designer indicates, on the other hand, that as far as trends in hotel decoration are concerned, the sixties, in vogue before, are gone. “That trend has really saturated the market and has run out of steam,” he argues. Currently, and “coinciding with this horrible global economic situation,” he adds, hotel accommodations “are looking for more glamour, a sense of affordable luxury, as well as to convey a sense of personalization and detail with the guest. To make them feel happy, satisfied with their choice and at ease.
Without a doubt, H. Pedraza has fulfilled this objective in La casa del médico. The company has been able to adapt to events and reinvent itself with the times. “At home we have a background in the world of hospitality and we have always liked to travel and decorate the spaces we inhabit with tact and sensitivity,” emphasizes its manager. As he explains, his real estate projects try to “distinguish themselves with an accent of modernity and a nod to uniqueness”, something they have undoubtedly achieved.
