    BKF chair
also called Butterfly because of its butterfly shape – starring in the design of any space, whether indoors or outdoors. This popular armchair, one of the most famous of the 20th century as well as one of the most international design icons, was invented in 1938 by the members of the Austral Group, architects Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy (hence it is known by the initials of their three surnames as an acronym).

Although the design is actually Ferrari’s, the three partners, who had worked in Le Corbursier’s studio in Paris, decided to present it together at the third Salón de Artistas Decoradores de Buenos Aires in 1940. Although they included a note acknowledging its legitimate author, the BKF has gone down in history with this name. We have already told you some curiosities of this piece, whose original model is kept in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Apparently, the director of MOMA’s industrial design department, Edgar Kaufmann, liked the BFK so much that he decided to commission three pieces: one for the museum itself, one for his parents’ home – Wright’s famous waterfall house – and a final one whose destination is unknown.
